Mexico Golf Vacation
When people think about Mexico, one of the first things that come to mind are the gorgeous beaches of resort towns like Cancun and Puerto Vallarta and the hot deserts of Central Mexico. But Mexico isn’t just about sun, sand, and surf. It isn’t just about rugged mountains and desert landscapes. Mexico is a country that offers so much diversity it’s hard to think about only one thing without taking into account all its other wonderful aspects.
Mexico is…a place that has everything. And everything includes golf.
Golf? Why, yes, Mexico has golf courses created by no less than top designers such as Jack Nicklaus and Robert Von Hagge. As if that isn’t enough, many of these courses are right along side steamy deserts, pristine beaches, wild jungles, and fascinating archeological ruins, quaint villages, and other attractions. So whether you are a beginner or pro at golfing, there’s a Mexico golf vacation to suit your taste and skill level.
Los Cabos
This twenty mile bracket of seacoast ‘Corridor’ leads the pack when it comes to top of the line Mexico golf vacations. Composed of two small and very different towns – San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas – Los Cabos has become one of the premier golf destinations in Mexico.
The place offers no less than five championship golf courses: The Palmilla and Cabo del Sol, designed by Jack Nicklaus, the Cabo San Lucas Country Club by Roy Dye, and the Cabo Real Golf Resort by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. In addition, there is also a public course at Campo de Golf San Jose, offering you an excellent nine hole Mexico golf vacation in a tropical setting.
Costa Alegre
The Costa Alegre is that strip of the Pacific Coast, starting from Manzanillo onwards to Puerto Vallarta and the adjacent Nuevo Vallarta. Next to Los Cabos, Costa Alegre is also a great magnet for Mexico golf vacationers.
An 18 hole course designed by Joe Finger awaits you at the Marina Vallarta complex in Puerto Vallarta. While in Nuevo Vallarta, a 36 hole has become a favorite course among many Mexico golf vacation enthusiasts since the time it opened its greens in late 1999. This wonderful course is located the elegant Four Seasons in Punta Mita, Nayarit. Nuevo Vallarta also offers other golf courses, such as El Tigre, Isla Navidad in Manzanillo, El Tamarindo along the Costa Alegre, and the course which Percy Clifford designed at Los Flamingos Country Club.
Acapulco
Originally Mexico’s premier resort and now going through a much deserved resurgence, Acapulco has always been a favorite family destination. With its vibrant night life, excellent restaurants, and family friendly activities, it’s no wonder. Acapulco combines quality playing grounds with extraordinary Mexican delights.
For a Mexico golf vacation that offers fascinating night scenes and margaritas on the beach, Acapulco offers two 18 hole championship courses, which are shared by the Acapulco Princess and the Pierre Marques hotels. And if that isn’t enough, there is also the 18 hole courses at the Vidafel Mayan Palace, the Tres Vidas Golf Course, and the Diamante Country Club. All these courses are offered to hotel guests and club members, but if you want a public course, the Club de Golf found across from the Acapulco Malibu Hotel also offers excellent golfing.
